Why is Failure the Secret Ingredient to Success? Or is it?

Failure is the thing most people avoid like the plague!

No one wakes up one day and says to themselves, I think I want to fail today. However what we avoid often is the one thing that shows up more quickly than what we want. Why is that? Well we can get into that in a bit. No matter what good memes and quotes are created about failure I am not sure I know anyone who is excited about a really fall on your face lose everything you have experience of failing. Failing is seen as a negative, a character flaw especially when it comes to money! And as an entrepreneur our failures do not just effect us but often lots of people around us. The money we bring in day after day feeds our families and the families of our employees. So that is just not an option. But is failure the opposite to success or is it on the same side? There is a duality to everything where we abide. Where there is up there is down. Where there is light there is darkness. Where there is goodness there is evil.

Is failure the secret ingredient to success?

However failure might be the road to success.

Lets think about it for a minute. What do you change when you are successful? If you are like the majority of people, we have success, nothing needs to be changed or illuminated. But when failure is staring at you in the face you can either ignore it or do something about it. If the pain is big enough we will take action! I can tell you of many experiences that changed not just what I did but who I was and who I became.

One day I had what I would call a massive failure. It started with a betrayal of trust by a person whom I had trusted for many years. He was not just a friend but a leader in our company. I trusted him with things that no one else had access to! It was on a Friday and we had our company meeting. The betrayal was not just of me but of everyone who had ever believed in the vision we were working on accomplishing. On that day, he showed just how much he was not in alignment with our culture. He had been unwilling to be honest with his feelings. At first I was stunned and then quit upset. But eventually I got to a point where I could look at it from a new place. Ultimately that knowledge led me to taking action and creating a life that worked much better for not just me but everyone involved.

The dagger that been used on us was also the cause of generating something way better than I could realize. Today I am grateful for the what he did. It put me in a position to be forced to see the problem that had been there for years and years. Questioning everything and discovering the things I need to truly live the life I am designed for.

We learn from our failures and live those lessons out in our life and our businesses.

In my case the failure in that relationship and in my business led me to make a choices that was not out of lacking, but abundance. In fact, I discovered that I had been avoiding the thought that something was wrong. This then led to bigger breakdown. If I just addressed it earlier, things would have changed more smoothly. Although, I would not change the outcome even if I could go back. Things do happen for a reason, and I am grateful they happened just as they did.

If it did not happen, there is a possibility that I would still be doing the same thing I was back then, Change is not always fun, but is the conduit of a life well lived which in my case includes running a successful business.

Questions To Ask Yourself to Help You Create Success in Business and Life.

  1. Am I Currently Living My Life's Purpose? Am I clear on my life's purpose and am I living it or working on getting to the place where I live it?

  2. Do I feel like I live in my core values? Are my actions and choices aligned with what I believe in most deeply?

  11. Is it time to make a shift? Does my current situation feel right, or is there a pull toward something different?

Success can be achieved from the smallest, unexpected wins, just as setbacks can arise even from well-laid plans.

What ultimately matters is how we respond, learn, and grow from each experience. If we approach every situation with the right mindset—a willingness to learn, adapt, and stay resilient—then almost anything can be turned into an opportunity for growth and success.

In essence, success and failure are less about what happens and more about what we do with what happens.
